CROMALUX: An intelligent lighting and illumination project

The synergies between research and innovation have ensured that lighting is also a key element in caring for the architectural heritage and historical monuments of many cities. And this is how the Cromalux project started. A project in which the intelligent lighting developed by the University of Santiago, Televés and Ferrovial Servicios is used to protect buildings and façades from external aggressions through integrated energy solutions.

The project is part of the European initiative Smartiago, which combines the preservation of heritage with intelligent technologies that enable cities to move towards the creation of the Smart City that seeks efficiency, sustainability and to take advantage of technology to improve infrastructures that affect heritage, such as lighting.

Intelligent lighting to care for heritage

The aim of the Cromalux project is to develop and install intelligent lighting solutions on facades and monuments that help to slow down and control the growth of biological

colonies that degrade these infrastructures, improving conservation and reducing the need for complex maintenance and restoration works.

To carry out the implementation of this pilot smart lighting in historic buildings in Santiago de Compostela, Televés has been responsible for the design, development and industrialisation of a smart lighting system with remote control and biostatic capacity, consisting of LED luminaires that stand out for their energy savings, sustainable materials and low thermal pollution.

For its part, Ferrovial Services contributes its extensive experience in the installation and maintenance of ornamental lighting infrastructures in buildings.

In addition, experts in the study of monumental heritage from the University of Santiago de Compostela are collaborating by carrying out scientific research to develop these technologies.

The ambitious initiative will install an excellent intelligent lighting system with remote control and biostatic capacity, consisting of LED luminaires that stand out for their energy savings, sustainable materials and low thermal pollution.
